{"id":486,"date":"2009-08-06T08:00:47","date_gmt":"2009-08-06T13:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dangeroustalk.net\/?p=486"},"modified":"2009-08-06T08:16:29","modified_gmt":"2009-08-06T13:16:29","slug":"486","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.dangeroustalk.net\/?p=486","title":{"rendered":"Atheist Bus Ad Pulled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently, the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) has decided to pull ads from 20 buses, which were bought and paid for by an atheist group called, \u201cIowa Atheists and Freethinkers.\u201d So how offensive were these evil atheist ads? See for yourself.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-485\" title=\"iowabus\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dangeroustalk.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/iowabus-300x83.jpg\" alt=\"iowabus\" width=\"300\" height=\"83\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.dangeroustalk.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/iowabus-300x83.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.dangeroustalk.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/iowabus.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, I actually agree with DART\u2019s reasoning. People weren\u2019t getting on the buses because they were offended by these ads. DART was losing money and this was a business decision. The fact that the ad wasn\u2019t a negative ad and was as watered down as possible and was targeting atheists and not trying to de-convert people makes no difference. Now, that doesn\u2019t mean that we have to like what happened and it doesn\u2019t mean that we shouldn\u2019t fight to reverse what happened. In fact, I think we should all complain to DART and convince them that this will be a public relations nightmare for them if they don\u2019t re-instate the bus ads.<\/p>\n<p>It sucks that DART has to be put in this situation, but they allowed religious and political ads in the past and that opens them up to this type of thing. But the underlining problem isn\u2019t DART, it is the people who are offended by such a non-offensive ad. I recently wrote an<a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/examiner\/x-8928-Philadelphia-Atheism-Examiner~y2009m8d4-Christians-offended-by-atheist-billboards\" target=\"_blank\"> Examiner<\/a> article about these Billboard and Bus ad Wars.<\/p>\n<p>As more and more atheist groups are forming and organizing, we are starting to advertise more and more and we need to have a game plan for this type of thing.
